Tone it down

It’s getting increasingly difficult to watch any late-night program that has a live studio audience. They must be coached or encouraged to whoop and holler and scream high-pitched “woos!” at the drop of a hat, and it’s getting ridiculous.

It feels contrived, it’s grating and over-the-top. The exuberance often doesn’t match what was just announced, or what someone said in the course of an interview. It often seems like a shouting contest, and it cheapens the product. But I guess this is the new acceptable standard for audience participation?

Same goes for America’s Got Talent or any of those shows. I have to believe that, to one extent or another, the audience is coached to react with unrealistic fervor. In any event, it seems an exaggerated response, and just plain too much.
