If I think of something else, I’ll update this post. In the meantime, one moment that actually comes to mind is when I got caught hiding cigarettes for a neighbor kid who didn’t have a very good reputation. I got suckered into doing someone else’s dirty work and succumbed to the pressure. I was in either 8th or 9th grade, I think. The kid came right to our back door the next morning and we had a hush-hush discussion regarding where I had hidden the cancer sticks. And of course this got Dad’s attention right away.
Later that morning, I got an earful in the car about it and realized that I had disappointed my father, and it hurt to think that. I wanted to make Dad proud and I never did such a thing again.
So, I guess not exactly a small moment.
