What’s a song that changed your life?

There was no song that changed my life. That seems a bit hyperbolic to me. Which isn’t to say that couldn’t happen for someone or that certain songs haven’t become earworms of the good kind and certain artists remain on my all-time favorites list.

I didn’t like The Beatles when they first burst on the scene. It wasn’t until 1970 and Abbey Road that I started taking an interest and appreciating them and their incredible creativity, their ability to keep reinventing themselves. Something, Here Comes the Sun, Because, You Never Give Me Your Money and the whole Medley on side 2. Everything about that album–well, except maybe for Maxwell’s Silver Hammer— is gold to me.

Billy Joel’s And So It Goes is a beautiful song, both melodically and lyrically. Bohemian Rhapsody, by Queen, is a song that keeps growing on me– not so much lyrically, but because musically it is a joy to listen to. And pretty much the whole Time Out album by Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond and the others is a jazz classic I could cue up any old time.
