I decided to pick up a small diamond art, or diamond painting kit at Hobby Lobby back around Christmas time, and I’ve since completed several projects. I’ve found that the bigger the piece, the more detail that can be achieved. I look for pieces that are actually based on paintings by the masters and have done large versions of The Starry Night by van Gogh, and Monet’s Water Lilies, and a smaller version of Monet’s Impression Sunrise.
I was contemplating tackling da Vinci’s The Last Supper, but the finished canvas is quite sizeable and would need a custom frame and mat, I think. Still, it may come to pass that this is one that occupies my time.
As I’m working on one of these, I sometimes think that it might be something many would find tedious– applying thousands of sparkly little “drills”, as they’re called, to a sticky surface. But besides being rewarded with a decent-looking finished product, I find it enjoyable and even a bit addicting. And it’s something to do, something with which to while away the hours.
